P-22, computer generated algorithmic pen plotter drawing, ink on paper, 50cm x 50cm, 1970

© 1970 by Manfred Mohr

About the algorithm:
This algorithm was inspired by Stockhausen’s “Zeitmasse” from 1955, where a music score for several instruments suddenly lets the musicians freely improvise during a given time period and then returns to the written score…

The elements on top and on the bottom of the drawing are horizontal, vertical, 45 degree lines, square waves, zig-zags, and have probabilities for line widths and lengths.
These are the same elements used in the algorithms: P-18, Random Walk, 1969 and P-21, band-structure, 1969-1970
